Teaching Kids Yoga:

Class Notes:

KIDS YOGA VIDEO:

We watched a very entertaining video that kids would find entertaining.

Can you picture yourself teaching this way? You could if you want to make it fun. Otherwise, you are teaching classes for adults.

For kids, it's always playing. Every yoga pose she does she makes it very entertaining. This is a great way for kids to have fun while moving and feel entertained to do it again.

She uses so many visuals for everything that she does. Kids have to use a lot of imagination because the background is not changing at all.

MIAMI DADE WEBSITE:

volume 3 - dance - movement skills and underlying principles - explore nonlocomotor skills (bending, stretching) - C. becuase there is music and they are not jumping.

Content - what are you going to do to teach it.

- the only time you will show your lesson plan is when the principle watches the class, this is when they get to see if what you are teaching matches what you said you were going to teach in the lesson plan.

Descrube how you would teach it:

If I were the teacher I would make sure to make the yoga lesson last all year because I think there are so many components to yoga like meditating and stretching and muscle building that will help a student grow in ways nothing else can.

Materials - I would bring my own speaker fo rmusic, I would bring mats, and I would also maybe bring coloring tools so that if students want another form of expression to calm their mind, they can.

Assessment - how will you measure if they actually learned what you were trying to teach. If they are able to walk away knowing ypga poses that are best for their sole and that they feel connected to their body then I have succeded because that is the ost important aspect to yoga and if they are able to destress by using thier body. I care more about them being able to take care of thier mental health than them know how to perfect yoga poses.

GROUP WORK:

come up with a way to teach stretching that is part of a story. and bring it to life.

Traditionally it was all about controling the kid and thier behavior, but we need to know that it is about the student not the teacher trying to control the kids.

COMPATANCY: volume 3 - dance - movement skills and underlying principles - explore nonlocomotor skills (bending, stretching) - C. becuase there is music and they are not jumping.

JUNGLE THEME: This story of stretching will tak ethe child into the forst to explore the many different animals and plants that live in nature.

It would start with reaching to the sun, bending down to touch the grass.

LESSON PLAN!!!!!!!!

Neck stretches - giraffe move the neck up and don, left and right, and in a full circle.

Arm swings - monkey stretch arms and the swing side to side.

tree frog squat - squat and jump back up to stretch the legs.

Flamingo balance (passe) - alternate bringing right and ;leg into pause to practice balance.
