Forum: 8/21/2024 The American Curriculum (Part 1)

The video I watched mainly focuses on the curriculum and how each type differentiates. These curriculums included written, supported, taught, assessed, learned, hidden and recommended. Each one is used for a different purpose as they help students in several ways. For example, taught is used when teaching dance and learned is used when you model beneficial dance factors. This gives students a better outlook at the material and helps them to understand it. These curriculums are not only significant, but can also be entertaining and a great time! They always don’t even have to be from money. In fact, many students who came to America with no money were actually better educated in this dancing field than those who did, which is pretty ironic.

Dr. Green has a very important role. She happens to be the Chair of the Masters of Arts and Education Curriculum Team at University of Massachusetts Global. With her knowledge, I received a better understanding of the curriculum and how it has not changed for quite a while. She agrees with and believes it is the best way for the students to learn and be active while doing so!

Why did the NEA (National Education Association), and its Committee of 10, leave the Arts out of the education curriculum in 1893?

They did this because they believed that dance and the arts were not crucial to someone’s career. Instead, they only believed that school/core subjects such as history, english, science and math should have been in the education curriculum. They totally disregarded the arts and thought it would never benefit someone’s career: which is totally wrong!

Why did the NEA make the arts part of the curriculum in 1918?

After quite a while and some deep thinking, they learned that the arts were more important than they actually thought. They realized the arts actually fulfill a great educational purpose as it helps students with their mind, abilities to think, and creativity. It is a good thing they realized!
